Project Waypoint and its browser extension. Effective October 28, 2026.
In short: Project Waypoint keeps what it needs to answer your questions and keep your account: your email address, your conversations, the thread summaries you make, and the credits you use. It sells nothing, shows no ads, uses no tracking or analytics, and shares nothing with anyone except the AI providers that write the answers.
Signing in
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. The sign-in is handled by Cloudflare, which lets in only the addresses Project Waypoint has been told to allow. Your email address identifies your account: your conversations, your credits and the summaries you make.
What Project Waypoint keeps
- Your conversations: the questions you ask and the answers, so you can return to them. You can delete any conversation yourself. Nobody else reads them, with one exception: when you send a help request from a conversation (the help button), the Waypoint team can read that conversation, so it can see what went wrong.
- The credits you use: what each answer, summary and report took from your credits.
- Thread summaries: a summary you make is shared with everyone who uses Project Waypoint, and kept with a note that your account made it.
- Feedback you choose to give, such as rating an answer, suggesting a glossary term, or a help request with any screenshots you add.
- Ordinary server logs, for keeping the service working.
The Chrome extension
The extension works only on The Magic Café's forum pages, and only while you have them open. It reads those pages to find the threads and sub-forums on them. It does not read any other site, and it does not record your browsing.
- To show summaries, it sends Project Waypoint the topic numbers of the threads on the page you are viewing.
- When you click Summarize, it asks Project Waypoint to summarize that thread from its own copy of the forum.
- When you select text and click Ask about this, it opens Project Waypoint with that text placed in your question box. Nothing is sent until you send the question yourself.
- To find earlier threads on the same question, it sends the topic number of the thread you are reading. For a thread too new to be in Project Waypoint's copy of the forum, it sends the thread's title and the opening of its first post instead, as shown on the page.
- When you search with the Project Waypoint search box, it sends the words you typed.
- To mark books from Project Waypoint's Library named in posts, it asks Project Waypoint for the list of those books; the posts themselves are read in your browser and not sent.
- If you follow a thread (the bell), Project Waypoint keeps the thread's topic number with your account, and how many of its posts there were when you last opened it, so it can tell you when there are new ones. You can stop following a thread at any time; it is part of your data download and is deleted with your account.
- Your settings (which features are on, how soon cards appear) are kept by your browser in its own storage.
The extension works the same way in Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.
The extension never collects passwords or payment details, and it runs no code from outside itself.
AI providers
Answers and summaries are written by AI models, by default OpenAI's. The question you ask, and the forum posts or book pages used to answer it, are sent to the model's provider to write the answer. OpenAI and Anthropic do not use data sent through their APIs to train their models unless a customer opts in, and Project Waypoint has not.
Your choices
You can delete your conversations at any time. To have your account and everything kept with it removed, ask the person who invited you to Project Waypoint.
